Teeth Whitening
Tooth Whitening Is a Simple and Effective Way to Improve Your Smile Without Picking Up a Drill
Professional tooth whitening is a minimally invasive cosmetic dental treatment that can lighten the natural colour of your teeth and help create a brighter, more confident smile.
Is Tooth Whitening Safe?
Under a dentist’s guidance, tooth whitening is a safe and effective alternative to more invasive cosmetic treatments such as veneers or crowns and is a common choice amongst patients.
It is considered highly conservative compared to other treatment options as it does not require the removal or modification of healthy tooth structure to enhance your smile.
By carrying out a dental health examination first, our dentists will ensure you are dentally fit and ready for tooth whitening.
A visit to the dental hygienist is also recommended prior to whitening treatment, to give the teeth a thorough clean and remove any surface stains.
What Is Involved in Tooth Whitening?
The most common type of whitening is called dentist-supervised home tooth whitening, which we believe to be safe, effective and excellent value for money.
Using 3D scanning technology, we will build you a custom whitening kit and demonstrate how to make the most of it at home.
Your dentist will explain how and when to use your whitening trays and whitening gel, and will advise you throughout treatment to help achieve a comfortable and predictable result.
Will My Veneers, Crowns or Composite Fillings Change Colour?
Unfortunately, not. Tooth whitening only changes the colour of natural teeth; existing veneers, crowns and composite fillings do not whiten.
Our dentists may recommend having tooth whitening first and considering any replacement, repair or cosmetic enhancement of existing restorations afterwards, so they can be matched to your newly whitened teeth.
Does Tooth Whitening Hurt?
All patients are given a thorough oral examination beforehand to ensure they don’t have cavities or tender gums which could otherwise become uncomfortable.
A small percentage of dentally fit people may find that their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment. This is managed by adjusting wear times and using desensitising toothpastes, gels or mouthwashes.
Our dentists will give advice tailored to each individual to ensure the most comfortable and effective tooth whitening experience.
How Long Does Home Tooth Whitening Take?
The total length of the home bleaching treatment can vary depending on how discoloured your teeth are and the shade you want to achieve.
The average treatment length is around two weeks, which is included in our kits. Once your dentist has demonstrated the system to you, you will need to continue the treatment at home by applying the whitening product nightly over the two-week period.
How Long Does the Tooth Whitening Effect Last?
The longevity of the whitening result depends on factors such as oral hygiene, diet, drinks and smoking.
On average, your teeth should still be whiter around a year after treatment. Your brighter smile can be maintained with six- to twelve-monthly top-up treatments, using the bespoke whitening trays we supply at the start and additional whitening gel supplied by us.
